Clearwater Waterfalls

Stopping off the Rogue Umpqua Scenic Byway to see Clearwater Waterfalls and perhaps picnic or camp.

Located on the scenic Rogue Umpqua Divide, it's here that Clearwater River surfaces from underground streams to tumble 30 feet over moss covered rocks. After falling, the river dances cold and clear, under a canopy of old growth Douglas Fir trees, around tree roots and under fallen logs supporting the life of ferns and other native plants. In late June the river is banked by the rose colored blossoms of wild rhododendron. This is a beautiful place. Clearwater Waterfalls has always been one of my favorites.

Directions to Clearwater Waterfalls

Clearwater Waterfalls is accessed at milepost 69.5 on Hwy 138, the Rogue Umpqua Scenic Byway.

For those unable to hike or walk distances, Clearwater Waterfalls is a beautiful vision just a 400' from the parking lot. The wayside also boasts an unimproved campground as well as a small picnic area.

Camping at Clearwater Falls

This is an unimproved campground, which means there is no drinking water. I think it's cozy, with 12 campsites, picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, as well as 8 picnic sites with tables and fire rings. Two Camping Areas

The first camping area is located at the waterfalls. When you pull off Hwy 138, take the first left after you pass the entry sign.

The other camping area is located on the other side of the river. Driving on the Rogue Umpqua Scenic Byway, Hwy 138, you'll see the sign for Clearwater Waterfalls, don't turn, drive approximately a mile further, turn right onto FS Road 4785 and drive for one mile. The camping area is off to the right. The waterfalls are also accessed from this campground, and there is a foot bridge that crosses the river to the picnic area at the waterfalls.
