Hiking Trails:
Clearwater River
in the Umpqua National Forest

Clearwater River is lovely, characterized by dancing ripples and small waterfalls, while shaded under a canopy of old growth Douglas Fir and cedar, in addition to wild dogwood, rhododendron and alder. The dogwood blooms in May, and the rhododendrons in the latter portion of June. The trail is 1.7 miles if you have someone to pick you up at the other end, if not, it's 3.4 miles. :-) It's rated easy with a recommended use for hking and mountain bike riding. All motorized vehicles are prohibited due to possibility of resource damage from rutting next to the stream, as well as, public opinion. As an aside, another unnamed trail runs parallel to the Clearwater River Trail, but offers no view of the river. From the West:

Turn north off the Rogue Umpqua Scenc Byway, Hwy 138, onto FS Road 34, Toketee Rigdon Road, This road is clearly marked with a sign for Toketee Waterfalls. It is also the west entrance for Toketee Ranger Station. Go .5 mile, staying to the right. The trailhead is on the right, just after you cross the second one lane bridge.

From the East:

Turn north off the Rogue Umpqua Scenic Byway, Hwy 138, onto FS Road 4776 at the east entrance to Toketee Ranger Station. Go less than .3 mile. You'll find the trailhead on the left just after cross the Clearwater River Bridge.
