Heceta Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint north of Florence, Oregon offers a variety of recreation opportunities as well a beautiful, even spectacular scenery.
Check with the Oregon State Park Service to find out more, but I can give a brief summary here. :-) The lighthouse is situated on a cape elevated 1000 feet above sea level. There are two hiking trails. The trail south of the lighthouse is only a one-half mile long with an elevation of only 150'. The trail begins at the parking lot, travels around the bed and breakfast inn an up to the lighthouse area and beautiful cliffside viewing. The hiking trail on the north side is more difficult. It is a two mile segment of the Oregon Coast Trail, following a steep winding path up the headland, with a gain in elevation of 600' and spectacular views of Cape Perpetua to the north.
The trails connect with Carl G. Washburne State Park State Park. I like this beach, Indeed, I like the area. If that helps you make a decision. The park also offers campground facilities that are available year round.
As a further inducement, Heceta Head Lighthouse is 13 miles north of Florence, Oregon. Florence also boats the numerous recreational opportunities of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area: hiking, photography, fishing, canoeing, off road vehicle use and camping. The Dunes are much more than sand :-). You may want to check them out.
