A resident in Eagleville had told us Emerson Campground was up here. She said we'd find it and the trailhead to different hiking trails into the South Warner Wilderness at the end of this dirt road. The dirt road wasn't bad. No washboard effect, and the sign at the turnoff from County Road 1 said it was only a 3 mile drive.

Amazingly, the south Warner Wilderness covers nearly the whole of the south Warner Mountains. - Well, it seems remarkable when one first learns of it, but after some thought the reason why becomes apparent. The Cascade Mountains and Sierra Madre to the west of the Warners takes most of the rain water and this environment doesn't support the growth of Douglas Firs. There are none. No Sugar Pines either.
