Sunlight filtered through the forest along the creek, while it baked the land in the open spaces, those not sheltered by the trees.

The trailhead at Emerson Creek Campground boasts access to several hiking trails. We selected the one that follows the creek, and we only followed until it turned away from Emerson Creek, about 2 miles.

When hiking in the South Warner Wilderness: The Forest Service follows a proscription in the south Warner Wilderness that allows lightning struck fires to burn. It probably goes without saying, but if you happen to be in the wilderness and this happens, get out.
