It was July 9th and Emerson creek was little more than a ripple, so tame and unassuming. But Emerson Creek isn't always so. Water that carries logs and other debris such as can be seen in the photo below rages through the forest. Not being tame at all.

The trailhead at Emerson Creek Campground boasts three hiking trails. We selected the one that follows the creek, and we only followed until it turned away from Emerson Creek, about 2 miles.

When hiking in the South Warner Wilderness: The Forest Service follows a proscription in the south Warner Wilderness that allows lightning struck fires to burn. It probably goes without saying, but if you happen to be in the wilderness and this happens, get out.
