You can also get quite spectacular view of Mt Thielsen from the Mt Thielsen Viewpoint on the east side of the Rogue Umpqua Scenic Byway. Park, get out of your car and look back to where you came from and you'll see where the dragon sleeps. (I always think Thielsen looks like a dragon from this view. :-) ) Continue south on the Rogue Umpqua Scenic Byway and you'll see the Rogue River, the Rogue River Gorge at Union Creek, the Natural Bridge. You'll also see different trailheads. Perhaps you might want to hike to National Creek Waterfalls, a short hike of less than a mile round trip. Or if you have more in mind, hike the National Rogue River Hiking Trail for some amazing views of the workings of water and geology. Be sure to take the turnoff for Prospect and take in the views and hiking trails to Mill Creek Waterfalls, Barr Creek Waterfalls and Pearsoney Waterfalls on the Rogue River. From there, continue heading south to Medford, Oregon where you can meet up with I - 5 again. Want to hike at Crater Lake National Park? Find the hiking trails at Crater Lake in Oregon. | |
