Be sure to check out road and fire conditions at the Ranger Station when planning and
before traveling, hiking or camping in the forest.

Try to make your plans for earlier in the season especially when your recreation plans include northern California. As an example, I've been to McCloud River Waterfalls in May and in July. The waterfalls are still beautiful in July, but they are immensely more so in May. As a further example, I was hiking at Silver Falls State Park in the Cascades in Oregon in August, 2006. Two of the falls were dripping. Brad looked at the photograph for the South Falls and said they were graceful in the diminished waterflow, but others, people who'd traveled from all over the world were disappointed when I spoke to them. No one cautioned them in this way, consider the time of year when planning your vacation around river flows. Rivers diminish as summer lengthens. :-)
