Travel Oregon: hiking, birding, canoeing trails and experience the uniqueChiloquin Ridge a mountain, 1000' high, located, in part, across the road from Gathering Light ... a retreat. This is a true nature hike in mountain wilds. There are no hiking trails. Just pick any place, and climb. I will never forget the first time I hiked on Chiloquin Ridge. Brad took me; we crossed simply crossed the road and began the hike. That day we came across a huge sugar pine, old, and scarred by fire. Brad stood there, gazing up into the branches and said, "I've never seen this tree before." The idea that one would know and remember an individual tree in the wild seemed so amazing to me then. Not so now, having lived there for nearly a decade. I can safely testify to the joys of hiking through a forest without marked paths, just free to find my own way and whatever vistas I might want. ~ gm Protect our National Forests and Wilderness Areas.
